Action Items currently being worked by Precinct 381 will be listed below for use in contacting our elected officials.

Action Item #1: Our school district is seeking assistance in contacting our State Legislators about its critical school funding issues. Those issues are listed for you below and your state legislators are found on the "Legislators of 381", "State" page of this website. Please read the following and write or call with your support of the need for adequate funding of our state schools.

After reading the above talking points presented by GISD Board members Stephanie Blanck, Jennifer Mauldin and Superintendent Devin Padvil, I have drafted a letter that can be used as a guide in preparing your own letter to Senator Charles Schwertner and Representative Terry Wilson who represent Precinct 381 in Austin. Their names, addresses and biographies are listed on the State Legislators page.  Our School Board Members are listed on the School Board page. Please read about the needs of public schools throughout Texas and then write of your support for our Texas Public Schools by the end of January. After you have contacted the legislators let me know that you have done so and by what means, phone, email, or letter (preferred as most effective).

Thanks for participating. This is how we keep democracy alive!   Bill

Here's the suggested wording for your letter:

Subject: Public School Funding

Dear Senator (Name) or Representative (Name):

Two factors have forced a budget crisis in 80% of Texas School Districts and in Georgetown: A. an inflation increase of 22% with a 0% increase in the Base Allotment for schools and B. funding based on attendance while enrolment is a higher number for which budgets must be planned.

Please initiate budget legislation to cure these issues. 1. Shift to an enrollment-based funding system. 2. Increase the State Annual Base Allotment by 22% for 2025. 3. Provide for an ongoing Annual Allotment inflation adjustment.

These provisions are critical to solving the public school funding Crisis and giving every Texas child an equal, high-quality education as required Constitutionally, and that Texas’s evolving economy needs.

Thank you for taking care of our concerns,

(Your Name)
